MAGNIFICENT SET of 16 BLUE TRANSFER WARE PLATES

~ PARK SCENERY ~

HAMPSON & BROADHURST, fl 1847 - 1856

Green Dock Works, Longton, Staffordshire.

This huge set of 16.....yes SIXTEEN plates are in magnificent condition with no cracks, no chips, no hairlines and no restorations.  Very very minor glaze crazing, occasional manufacturing glaze pops and kiln frits just about as mint as you can get.  Nice rich mid to dark blue colour and good gray/blue glaze.  Each plate marked to base.  Wonderful display as you can see.

BLUE TRANSFER WARE PLATE

~~ NANT MILL, WALES ~~

ELKIN, KNIGHT & CO, ROCK CARTOUCHE SERIES. fl. 1822 - 1846.

Good medium to dark blue transfer and a rare pattern of Nant Mill.  Condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or restoration.  There is an in the making firing fault and 3 kiln stilt marks, see picture.  Excellent display and a very nice addition to your historic transfer collection.  Marked to base, see picture, with the pattern name and also an impressed 'eagle' mark. 

Diameter 8 1/2 inch.  Ref; Coysh/Henrywood Vol 1.

RED TRANSFER WARE TANKARD ~ ROBIN HOODS WELL, NOTTINGHAM

A super and unusual tankard with "Robin Hoods Well" depicting the legendary hero on horseback chatting to two ladies at the well, on one side and "Robin Hood's Men Preparing Dinner" on the other.  Nice red transfer, raspberry red/pink that we call 'puce' and excellent condition.  An old hairline, see picture, usual glaze crazing and a little age staining, a super display.  Good pearly lead glaze.

Seldom seen manufacturer born in Bordeaux, France in 1789 of British parents.  He founded his pottery there in 1834 and became mayor of the city in 1838.  Condition is excellent with no chips cracks or restoration.  Rubs and wear to the glaze and age staining.  Display is very nice and an interesting addition to your transfer ware collection.  Very pretty colour.  Printed and impressed mark to base.

From the Indian Sporting Series, a great plate in excellent condition.  Nice mid to dark blue transfer and pearly glaze.

VICTORIAN CHILD'S PLATE ~ CAMELS

A super octagonal version of this pattern, transfer printed in lilac and over painted in coloured enamels.  The press molded border is particularly delightful with classical 'Adam' swags and motif.  In excellent condition, no chips or cracks, a small firing fault to bottom edge, covered by the border paint.  6 3/4 inch.  Staffordshire Circa 1850.

Unusual pattern child's plate, transfer printed in black with blue, green and yellow hand painted details.  Press molded daisy border with rope edge and pink luster band.  In excellent condition, a very small chip to bottom underside rim and faint hairline underside at 10 o'clock, neither seen from above.  Usual crazing and a little age stain.

~ PINK SPLASH GROUND WITH PINK LUSTER BAND~

What a lovely and unusual pitcher, transfer printed black fruit and floral pattern on pink splash ground which is deeper than shows in the picture taken in bright sun! with pink luster band.  The lower body press molded in the form of a sea shell.  In excellent condition, no cracks or hairlines, an old repair to chip on the foot.  A super addition to any collection.  Height 5 1/2 inch max.  Staffordshire circa 1850.

RARE VICTORIAN STAFFORDSHIRE ~ CANDLE SNUFFER 

It is a very long time since I have had such a pretty candle snuffer.  Hand painted sprigs of pink roses and gilt highlights.  In excellent condition, no chips, cracks, repairs.  A tiny tiny amount of paint loss and a little wear to the gilt.  Just waiting for your country cottage look.  Staffordshire circa 1850.   Height 3 inch.

LARGE STAFFORDSHIRE BOWL, DARK BLUE TRANSFER ~ SPANISH OPERA ~

A big, beautiful bowl with an unusual pattern but is a battered beauty.  A three inch crack down from the rim and a large star shape crack have both been professionally stabilized and though not invisible are difficult to see.  Still a stunning display piece.  Diameter 12 inch x Depth 2 1/2 inch.

Marked to base with name of pattern and makers mark 'B & D' I have not been able to identify maker.  Circa 1850.
