FINE AND RARE VICTORIAN THEATRICAL STAFFORDSHIRE FIGURE
THE ELEPHANT OF SIAM and MR. HEMMING
~~ PRINCE ALMANSOR'S ESCAPE ~~
Originally performed at the Adelphi Theater, London the 'New and Gorgeous Serio-Comic Indian Burletta Spectacle' called 'The Elephant of Siam or The Fire Fiend' was purchased by Wombwell's Menagerie in 1830. During the course of the action the elephant wrenches the bars from Prince Almansor's window and the prince slides down the elephants trunk to safety, this is the scene captured in this delightful figure. Condition is excellent, a little very paint flaking and wear to the soft gilt. A very rare chance to add to your theatrical or circus figure collection.
Height 6 1/2 inch. Circa 1850.
