~ Lovely Original Condition ~ Very unusual 30hr wall clock from the Black Forest region of Germany. The dial surround is very primitive and decorative - the design is pressed into the sheet metal probably from a carved wood pattern. The dial itself is enameled and the frame is gesso - lacquered black and highlighted with gilt which is now nicely worn. The original hands finish of the dial. Click here to watch the clock running The movement is a typical Black Forest movement from the second half of the 19th century - wooden plates, steel shafts and brass wheels. The movement strikes a gong on the hour - Click here to hear the strike. The side panels are missing but otherwise the movement is complete. Condition is very original and good. The movement is clean and running - although please don't expect good time keeping and reliability from this little movement! The strike is noisy as the gear train is worn as usual with these movements - you probably heard it in the movie above! The frame of the clock is chipped and worn which really lends this piece character. The dial and surround are in very good condition - the dial has no cracks or chips and there is just the slightest amount of paint loss to the surround. This clock would add the finishing touch to a mediaeval or gothic country look - or just great to have a rare and unusual clock. Very charming and unusual find
- from local farm sale. Dimensions of the frame are 13 3/4" high, 12 1/4" wide. |
