~ French - Circa 1880 ~ ~~ Excellent condition ~~ A very decorative gilt brass clock featuring a pair of Lions Rampant. To the sides are depictions of goddess Nike and beneath the dial is a goddess mask. Clock is beautifully modelled and the gilding in very good clean and bright condition. The dial is enamel on copper with a brass centre and is complete with original blued steel hands. The French movement is of the high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the movie below to hear the bell and watch the clock running! Condition of the case is
excellent with clean and bright finish and there are no losses. There is a small
crack in the left hand rear leg and the front foot is a little distorted. There is some very minor wear to the original
gilding on the high spots. There is some scratching to the original bevelled
glass. The dial has some slight hair-lining and a faint crack next to the right
hand winding hole.
About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employee two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free. |
