Antique French Gilt Cartel Clock

Super Antique French Cartel wall clock, classical style, with feather and darts, eagles heads and Romanesque portrait - there is also French influence with the typically Rococo vacant cartouche, 'C' scroll and shell below the dial. Very good quality with egg and dart bezel, enamel dial with cast centre boss and convex glass.

The movement is of good quality, runs for 8 days and strikes on a bell. It is fitted with the superior "rack" striking which does not go out of sequence. It is unrestored, clean and in full working order.

Condition of the case is very good. It is cast brass/bronze and gilded. The gilding is a little worn, we have brought it up with a little gilt wax. There is some minor chipping around the left hand winding hole and a small hairline near the 12 o'clock. The pendulum is a replacement to match the damaged original.
