Magnificent Ormolu and Veneer Table Clock

A most stunning, large, original antique French table clock in the Rococo style. It is made of a beautifully figured, antique golden brown veneer mounted with finely modelled and gilded ormolu that is in excellent original condition. The shape is classic Rococo, asymmetric waisted design with bold acanthus shoulders, scroll feet and a flamboyant floral swag to the top. This clock is unusual in having its original separate stand and creates the most magnificent display.

The beautiful and large dial is also ormolu and is mounted with 25 individual enamel cartouches. It is complete with original blued steel fretted hands and convex glass bezel. The rear door is glazed with frosted glass.

The French movement is of very high quality and has the Vincenti mark on the movement backplate. It is the large plate version of the Pendule De Paris movement and has the superior rack striking mechanism and pin-pallet dead-beat escapement. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days on one wind and strikes the hours and halves on a sonorous coiled gong. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is excellent, ormolu has clean and bright finish and there is very little wear and discolouration and no losses. The veneer is also very good, there is some cracking and a couple of tiny losses. It has mellowed to a lovely soft golden brown with a beautiful figure. There are a couple of chips of wood from the rear of the stand. The frosting of the rear door is a little patchy. The dial is also excellent with just some very slight nibbles to the cartouches.
