A gorgeous Folk Art portrait, oil on canvas, of a black and white dog, in a landscape.  Clever boy (or girl!) has caught a rat, and has a very pleased expression.  The work of an itinerant artist, a little primitive, very 'folky' this is not signed, as is common with these animal portraits by artists who would travel the countryside painting favourite dogs, cattle, sheep, horses and even children.  Condition is very good, there are two small areas of old repair and craqueleur over the painting, which is dark and some may wish to have cleaned.  I like it just the way it is.  The painting has been re-lined during the last ten years or so, and it has also been re-framed at some time.  The frame is ebonised wood with a thin gold line, see pictures.  Personally I would re-frame, but the painting is ready to hang.  A great display for an English country look.  Super addition for your folk art or primitive art collection.
