LE CUIRASSIER

Oil on board of Le Cuirassier, mounted on his white horse, his cuirass drawn, very heroic and typical of Theodore Gericault compositions.  This is a good old copy of excellent colour and condition, from a local country house, no in painting or touch ups that I can see.  Framed in a simple but very good quality gilt frame.... proper gilding not spray paint! and ready to hang.  A small chip to the frame edge (see picture) can be easily covered.  I am not sure of the age but probably first half of 20th century, frame relatively recent.  Stunning display for your study or office and super addition to a military collection or decor.

Lots of information at the Grove Art website on  Théodore Gericault (b Rouen, 26 Sept 1791; d Paris, 26 Jan 1824).
